Tool #11

1. What are your favorite tools you now have in your personal technology toolbox? Briefly describe a particular activity that you will plan for your students using at least one of these new tools.
I personally like Animoto the best. I think it will be a great tool for students to take pictures and create short stories for a check for understanding on just about any subject. I also liked using Google docs for collaboration with colleagues.

2. How have you transformed your thinking about the learning that will take place in your classroom? How has your vision for your classroom changed? Are you going to need to make any changes to your classroom to accommodate the 21st Century learner?
It is a reality that the way our students learn is changing and technology is a good tool to help us achieve learning goals in the classroom. Our classrooms are going to have technology where students can have easy access to extra resources to aid their learning goals. I think that for starters some of my learning centers/activities are going to start changing to include the used of iPod Touch for students to work with in different subject areas.

3. Were there any unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you? No unexpected outcomes. I enjoyed exploring more of the web 2.0 tools and playing with the iPod Touch to find apps for my students to use in the classroom.

Tool #10

1. Discuss at least three things you would want to make sure your students understand about being good digital citizens.
Our students need to understand how to use internet safely. I believe I must also teach them the importance of copyright and fair use. Finally, I think it is highly important that we teach our students that just because we find it online it doesn't mean that it is correct/true and that we need to identify which are trusted places to find information.

2. Share at least one of the resources mentioned above or on the Ed Tech website that you plan to use instructionally.
I plan on using the Brain Pop resource on Digital Citizenship to help my students with the concept.

3. Explain briefly how you would "teach" the idea of digital citizenship to your students.
After showing the Brain Pop Video on digital citizenship we will discuss what being a good digital citizen is and what it entails.

4. Explain briefly how you plan to share the idea of digital citizenship with your parents.
I think that through our classroom's wall and a newsletter we can inform parents about what digital citizenship is.

Tool #9

  1. Why do you think it is important to tie the technology to the objective? Our goal it to get students to learn the curriculum. Therefore, it is highly important that we use technology to achieve our goal and in order for that to happen we must tie in our curriculum objectives into the activities that our students do while using the technology to learn.
  2. Why should we hold students accountable for the stations/centers? Students need to be accountable for their learning if we want learning to happen while they are doing stations/centers. If we don't hold students accountable we can't really check whether or not they are doing the activities how they are supposed to be doing them to achieve our goals for them, to learn.
  3. Visit 2 of the applicable links to interactive websites for your content/grade level. Which sites did you like. How could you use them as stations? How can you hold the students accountable for their time in these stations? I liked Tutpup. Students can use this for math facts and spelling. It can easily be differentiated to students' learning levels. I can create a chart where students write the activity they did with their partner and they write the "score" for the activity. I also visited Thinkfinity. I played coin box for a while and liked that activity for my students to practice money. Students can do the activity and at the end they can write in their journals a short reflection about what they did and how it helps them with the concept of money.
  4. List two to three apps you found for the iPod Touch/iPad that you can use in your classroom. What do you see that station looking like? How can you hold the students accountable for their time in these stations? I like ClockMaster for my students to practice time. Students can play and record in their journals a certain amount of clocks.time they practiced and write a reflection on why it is important to tell time accurately. I liked Read Me Stories for students to listen to and read English stories. Once they read/listen to the story they can do a story map, describe characters, write a reflection on whether they liked or not the story and why.
  5. What about other ways to use the iPod Touch/iPad? Share another way you can see your students using the device as a station. Students can use the iPod Touch to take pictures and create animoto's for projects.

Tool #8

  • After watching the tutorials for the iPod Touch I learned that you can have up to 8 active windows open, there are 11 screens that you can put apps on and, I will be the one managing the devices on my school laptop using an iTunes account that I must create using my SBISD email associated with it.

  • Effective classroom device management needs to be setup before students can begin using the devices. Students will be introduced to the device management rules I will create before they begin to use them just as we do before starting math and other learning centers. I liked they idea of having classroom managers in charge or putting out and away the devices and making sure they are charging. I will also have a pair of "Assistants" that will be my device experts who can help other students when they encounter issues.
  • Tool #7

    1. Content objective - Social Studies
    2. When you plan to implement - I plan on implementing this project at the conclusion of our Heroes unit.
    3. What tool(s) you plan to use - iEARN collaboration center
    4. A brief description of the project (plan - two or three sentences) - Students will write their Heroes project report using Google Docs and then publish it "My Hero" project as a means to participate in the project and create cultural awareness.

    Tool #6

I used wallwisher to create a wall that will contain news and information about our classroom. I think this will be a great way for students and parents to keep up-to-date information about what is going on in the classroom.

Next, I used Poll Everywhere to create a question for students to answer. This is a great tool to use in the classroom to take polls for quick "check for Understanding"

    Tool #5

I created an Animoto using animal pictures. I though I could used the Animoto as a set to our bird unit. Students had to think which animals are and aren't birds. Here is the product:

I like Animoto because the videos are so easy to create that I can easily create them as a "set" for any lesson and my students can create them as quick product to show learning
    understanding.

Next I use ABCya! to create a word cloud. This is a sample of
something students can create when asked to do a word cloud on what landforms they learned.

Students can use this tool to work on spelling, word work, describe things they learned, describe themselves, etc. It has many uses within the classroom.
